Welcome to another year of the Bridgman Cup High School Field Hockey Tournament . This year the tournament will once again be held on the Thanksgiving weekend at the University of Victoria campus, taking place Friday, October 10 to Sunday, October 12, 2025.

The Bridgman Cup is the oldest field hockey tournament in North America. The silver cup donated by Commander Montague Bridgman, was a trophy to be played for annually among the few teams in Victoria and Duncan. Specially designed pins created by Birks jewellers, were presented to each of the winning team members. This tradition continues to this day.

The tournament brings together several of the province’s best high school girls field hockey programs and is a showcase for island hockey talent. It’s also an opportunity for local officials (technical and umpires) to take part in a three-day tournament. The last edition ran in 2024, while the tournament has been running since 1937.

Vancouver Island teams taking part this year include St. Michael’s University School (SMUS), Glenylon Norfolk (GNS), Shawnigan Lake School (SLS) and Quw’utsun (Cowichan); while several historic programs like Handsworth, Collingwood, Little Flower, Kelowna and Crofton House, and newer participants Rockridge, Sentinel and Sutherland help round out the 12-team tournament.

Last year, 2024, saw Handsworth Secondary School claim their 10th Bridgman Cup title with a win over Little Flower, while Collingwood picked up third place. This year’s tournament will be an important tester for the newly-shaped BC School Sports divisions with SMUS, Little Flower, Collingwood and Crofton House being promoted to AAA, while GNS looks like a heavy favourite for the AA division. The Stephanie Johnston (Doney) Memorial Scholarship is also presented each year at the tournament. This year the scholarship will be presented to Monet Thurbide a graduating player from Oak Bay.
